Air Products has commissioned its first hydrogen station for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Zhangjiakou, China’s Hebei Province, one of the host cities.
Opening the station on Thursday (8th July), the industrial gas giant said the station represents the first of its kind hydrogen fuelling facility to serve the international event.
With a filling capacity of 200kg per day, and a pressure of 70MPa, the station can fuel the latest hydrogen fuel cell vehicle models with its state-of-the-art technology and equipment.
The new development, however, is not Air Products only contribution to the Games. The company has said it will also build additional fuelling stations and hydrogen supply for the Winter Olympics.
Commenting on the company’s role here, Seifi Ghasemi, Air Products’ Chairman, President and CEO, said, “Air Products is honoured to contribute to a green Beijing Winter Olympics, an excellent platform to demonstrate the role hydrogen can play in the energy transition to build a cleaner energy future.”

In line with the “Green Olympics” initiative, Zhangjiakou, China’s first-ever National Renewable Energy Demonstration Zone, hopes to become a world-class demonstration city for hydrogen energy applications.

The company has been involved in over 250 hydrogen fuelling projects in 20 countries and its fuelling technology is used in over 1,500,000 hydrogen fills per year.
