A demonstration system has been built for CO2NNEX for e-methane – a digital platform for visualising the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions across the value chain of e-methane – by three major Japanese industrial companies.
A clean alternative to natural gas, e-methane is produced using electricity made from renewable sources – otherwise known as the ‘Power-to-Gas’ process.
Announced yesterday (Feb 15th), Osaka Gas Co. (Osaka Gas), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and IBM Japan (IBM) have built the system to manage the amount of CO2 emissions across the entire e-methane supply chain.
The partners aim to use the initiative as a way to accelerate the transition to a Net Zero society by exploring CO2 accounting methods for carbon dioxide capture and utilisation (CCU), methanation and the application of the accounting methods for e-methane.
According to MHI, the system has been established as part of the partners’ joint project for another PoC that has been underway since October 2022 utilising CO2NNEX.
