Internet+ industrial gas in China – A real trend or just a gimmick?

As already mentioned in several articles before, ‘Internet+’ has become the buzz word in China since Prime Minister Li Keqiang made the statement in his Government Work Report in March last year (2015). The sluggish China steel industry is already trying to look for the ‘magic pill’ in this idea of combining a traditional industry with the information technology (IT).

In simple terms, ‘Internet+’ means Internet + various traditional industries’. But this is not just a simple arithmetic addition. It is to make use of the IT and the internet platform to a deep level so that traditional industries and the internet can merge together to create a brand new development trend and mode. When that merge happens, it is expected to bring new innovations and boost the productivity of the industries – leading to a new phase of economic development.

The internet is nothing new to the Chinese; it is estimated that the number of internet users in China in 2015 has grown to almost half of its total population, not to mention that China now has the largest number of internet users in the world. Further still, industrial gas companies and equipment companies – just like other companies in other industries – have long since started to set up their own websites to promote their company and products.
