Air Liquide to supply first low carbon liquid nitrogen to Indonesia

PT Air Liquide Indonesia (ALINDO) has signed a deal with Saint-Gobain Abrasives Diamas to supply the materials manufacturer with low carbon liquid nitrogen.

Marking the first low carbon industrial gas supply in Indonesia, Air Liquide states that the low carbon offer to Saint-Gobain relies on the access to sufficient renewable energy to produce the volumes required.

France-based Saint Gobain designs, manufactures and distributes materials and services for the construction and industrial markets.

Nitrogen is used across a range of manufacturing processes for purposes such as inerting and purging to flushing and sterilising to product transfer and packaging.

It can also aid in the removal of undesirable oxygen from a manufacturing process or environment, eliminating the risk of oxidation.

According to Air Liquide, the partnership underlines the commitment of both companies to reduce their carbon footprint, in line with the Indonesian government’s climate objectives.

“We are pleased to embark on this decarbonisation-drive collaboration with Saint-Gobain as our first low carbon gas customer in Indonesia,” said Marloes Moerman, President Director of Air Liquide Indonesia.

“With our customers and industrial partners, we look forward to building a sustainable future together.”

Guided by its purpose, “Making the World a Better Home’, Saint Gobain laid out its 2025 environmental targets in 2015, when it pledged to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 20%.

Having released its roadmap to carbon neutrality, the manufacturer has targeted carbon neutrality by 2050.
